The Red Lion & Ruen Thai Restaurant

The Ruen Thai Restaurant offers freshly prepared Thai cuisine created by a genuine Thai chef and cooked 'to-order'. For this reason, please understand that the preparation times are somewhat longer than in other establishments. For Take-away orders, please allow a minimum of 2hrs between ordering and collecting your food if at all possible. Order by dish number please. We do not compromise; so wherever possible we will use genuine Thai ingredients obtained from suppliers in the UK which are flown-in from Thailand and delivered fresh to our door. Thai food is noted for its sharp contrasting flavours and aromas. It forms a healthy diet because many of the ingredients are herbs and spices. Some of the more well-known of these are: Ginger, krachai, galangal, lemon grass, turmeric, Kaffir lime, cumin, lime leaves and coriander. Thai soup is generally considered a main course dish in Thailand and would be eaten with rice as a complete meal. Our portion size reflects this fact. We won’t stop you, however, if you wish to order it as an appetiser. Red, Green and Yellow Curry – what’s the difference? There is a popular myth concerning Thai curries that one particular variety is spicier than another. This is not necessarily true – all are prepared to taste; so a Red curry is not automatically ‘hotter’ than a Green curry and a Green curry is not automatically ‘hotter’ than a Yellow curry etc. The real difference lies in the combination or set of spices that both colour and flavour the coconut milk. Our coconut milk-based curries, served in a bowl, are normally prepared medium hot – please inform us at the time of ordering if you desire otherwise and we will do our best to prepare your meal as you prefer it. Our Talay dishes are prepared with a combination of prawns, squid, mussels and crab.
